Hot Dog Pete’s – Atlanta, GA (Quick Bite)

One of my co-workers asked me if I had been to Hot Dog Pete’s, which had opened in July of 2020.  I’d never heard of it, which immediately made it interesting.  So on a Sunday afternoon, as we discussed what we might want for lunch, I suggested a quick run down to Summer Hill to pick up hot dogs.

Owned by Nick Pihakis of Jim N’ Nick’s Bar-B-Q.  Hot Dog Pete’s is named for his business partner, Pete Graphos, who founded Alabama’s Sneaky Pete’s Hot Dogs in the mid-Sixties.  We ordered an assortment of dogs:

The Hot Rod – bacon, shredded cheddar, caramelized onions (held, for me) and barbecue sauce, on a cheddarwurst brat.

The Skyline Chili Dog – chili diced onions (held, again), mustard and shredded cheddar.

And for my beloved, the Slaw Dog, chili (held, for her), collard green coleslaw and yellow mustard on a jalapeno cheddarwurst.

We also shared a side of Loaded Waffle Fries – house cut waffle fries with Pete’s meat sauce, cheddar, pico and mustard.  Like the dogs, these were extremely messy but very tasty.

As you enter from Georgia Avenue, you pass by this mural.  I love that they’re honoring their neighborhood.  Since this 2021, we’ve been back a half dozen or more times – the dogs are consistently excellent.
