On the day after Christmas, at a near-deserted CODA Collective food hall, we made our way to Humble Mumble. Chef Justin Dixon‘s restaurant, named after his favorite Outkast song, had been on my radar, since seeing it on an eater Atlanta list of the best sandwiches in Atlanta. But they’re only open from 11 AM to 3 PM Monday through Friday. And that’s a time that I’m rarely downtown. After parking in the underground lot, I was afraid they werent open on Boxing Day (many of the restaurants housed there were not). But, thankfully, they were open. Chef told us it was slow today, and I believe that because at 12:15 we were order number two. My love chose the turkey stack – sliced turkey, mozzarella, cranberry relish, greens and a basil mayo on a toasted bun.

First, it was HUGE, as was my sandwich. And her sandwich was basically Thanksgiving on a bun. Very tasty and very hearty. We also shared an order of fresh fried chips, which were crispy and not oily at all, as chips too frequently can be.

I chose the OG meatloaf melt, with pimento cheese –

This was a half inch thick slice of meatloaf, seared on the griddle and topped with pimento cheese which, when hot, tends to get things all messy. This sandwich was a hot mess, in the best possible way. I was tempted to only heat half, because of the size, but my head lost to my stomach, as this was too good to leave any for later. The Meatballer and the Italian Job will have to wait for another visit.
