Dumpling Factory – Atlanta, GA

Nothing like hearing about a place at lunch, and then heading there for dinner! In a recent Atlanta magazine article about the best new restaurants of 2024 (and late 2023), I saw the Dumpling Factory pick up one of 12 Honorable Mentions. So, when my beloved said what would you like for dinner, I said, “I’ve been thinking about dumplings all day!”

It’s all about the dumplings here, with seven different filling options – pork / chive, beef / carrot, chicken / corn, pork / cabbage, lamb / zucchini, pork / shrimp / chive and vegtable [sic]. Those same fillings are also available in both baos and potstickers. We started with a delicious scallion pancake,

which was light, airy and piping hot. We tried one of these recently and when we saw it on the menu, it made the order. I chose a six dumpling and side meal (your choices are soup, salad or fried rice) with the hot and sour soup.

The soup was thick and spicy, and I added all the noodles from the order of Dan Dan Noodles for added “heft”. The Dan Dans, which are served cold and in different ways depending on where you order them, were served with slices of cucumber and a spicy peanut sauce. There was no minced pork in this version. My lovely bride chose the chose the dumplings with egg fried rice, which was some of the best fried rice we’ve had.

We chose beef / carrot and pork / chive dumplings for our meals, which came out piping hot. And we ended up with way too much food.

The dumplings were very good, with what was effectively a meatball, inside the pillowy dough. And on the positive side, we had plenty of leftovers.
