I have heard about Loveless Cafe for years, but we had never had the chance to dine there. About thirty minutes west of Nashville, we rarely get that far out of downtown, on our trips to the Las Vegas of country music. But, over July 4th weekend, we were there for a few days and I made a point of getting to Loveless.

Back in 1951, the Loveless’ started selling biscuits and fried chicken, from their house, to travelers heading west, from Nashville, toward Memphis, on highway 100. They then turned the house into a restaurant, added the motel and have been serving folks for over 70 years. According to their web site, they are serving up to 10,000 biscuits per day. We started with this platter of them, with grape and peach jam.

My beloved chose the chicken and waffles. This was as thick as a Belgian waffle and as dense as a pancake and absolutely delicious. I chose the half fried chicken,

since it was just $1.75 more than a 1/4 yardbird (of light meat). For sides I chose the mac n cheese and sweet potato soufflé. The mac n cheese was gooey and sticky and delicious. The sweet potatoes were very sweet and heavily spiced, almost as sweet as a dessert. I didn’t finish it all, saving room for dessert.
And dessert was one of those biscuits, with peach jam.
