JM Gerrish – Winter Harbor, ME

What I didn’t understand about camping in Acadia National Park is that one of the campgrounds (Schoodic Point), while only seven miles from Bar Harbor (in a straight line), it is at least an hour’s drive. The town at Schoodic is Winter Harbor – and the town was closing down for the season (the campground closed for the season on Monday at 10:45 am). We stopped at JM Gerrish on Saturday morning for breakfast and enjoyed it so much that we ate there again on Sunday (their last day).

Open for breakfast and lunch, it was packed both days with locals and tourists, like us. This was a non-lobster meal, so she got as close as she could with nova and lox.

I had fallen for Maine blueberries, on our stop at Louis’ Lunch, and had blueberry pancakes with hot local maple syrup both days.

I would eat this again, tomorrow, and the next day. And the next. One of the best breakfasts I remember – maybe it was completing the five day nearly two thousand mile journey to get to Maine, but I think it was the combination of a relaxed cozy atmosphere, glorious company and delicious food.
