The ultimate destination for the Great Northeast Road Trip of 2025 was Maine – Acadia National Park for me and Anyplace With Fresh Lobster for my wife! Venturing down to Bar Harbor, we rolled into the Travelin’ Lobster for late lunch, after going out on a lobster boat in the morning. All over that part of Maine are “lobster pounds”. These are not places to adopt a lobster, but rather restaurants where you buy your lobster, by the pound, and they prepare it for you.

I chose a small hot lobster roll, which had a generous amount of chunk meat, with butter. I like lobster, but don’t love it, so a lobster roll is the prime mix of reward / effort for me. My beloved, on the other hand, believes in the struggle.

She chose a pound and half lobster, steamed for her. And then spent the next half hour cracking, digging and assaulting that crustacean, much to her delight. She judged it excellent. The Travelin’ Lobster has been family owned and operated, continuously, since 2002 and in its current location since 2015.
