We were staying down on St. Simons Island for a couple of days on business. As I headed out to an afternoon meeting late one day, I saw Hot Dog Alley. It was closed for the day, but I made a note to swing back by at some point over the next couple of days.
The next day a little after lunch time, I drove by and saw that it was open. There were two cars and three or four golf carts in the parking lot. When I parked and walked up I was struck by the fact that it really was a hot dog stand.
Single window. Single grill. A half-dozen people sitting around out front, talking on cell phones, reading the paper, eating dogs and talking about life. I ordered a chili dog and fries.
The fries were obviously frozen, as opposed to fresh cut, and nothing special. The chili dog was good – better than the chain chili dog down the street at the DQ. But nowhere near as good as a Yellow Jacket.
