Over the last ten months, I’ve eaten at two different Tom+Chee restaurants, on three different occasions. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve LOVED grilled cheese and tomato soup together and thought the idea of a restaurant focused on that pairing was brilliant. These guys got their big start on Shark Tank and have now spread to twenty-three locations in fourteen states.
The first visit (and later second) was to the location up in Suwanee, by the Mall of Georgia. (I’ve learned while preparing this post that this location has since closed). I was out running errands one day at lunch time and decided to give it a try. On that first visit, I chose classic tomato soup, with BBQ bacon+chee sandwich (BBQ chips, bacon, + American cheese on white bread).
The third visit, to the Kennesaw location (which is currently the only Georgia location), found me having a Ham+chee (no pickle), with classic tomato soup, and my beloved had one of their off-menu creations, the hip-chee (which included hummus and roasted red peppers).
The sandwiches were tasty, but each time, neither the sandwich nor the soup was hot. I don’t know how they failed to succeed with either on that front. The classic tomato was also more bitter than I expected – if I go back, I’ll try the chunky or creamy tomato basic.
