Owl’s Head General Store – Owl’s Head, ME

As part of the great Northeast road trip of 2025, I had planned out the journey with a couple of stops in mind. From a random reference, somewhere in the past, I had written down the Owl’s Head General Store on my quest for the perfect burger. Halfway between Portland and Bar Harbor, Owl’s Head was the last food stop before we would get to Acadia.

Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday only, from 8 am – 7 pm, their claim to fame (voted Maine’s best burger by Food Network) is the Seven Napkin Burger. Owl’s Head is a quintessential New England township, six – seven store fronts surrounding the store, with a sign for a lighthouse a block away. There is no “dine-in” option, but they do have picnic tables outside. We both went for the Seven Napkin Burger, which comes with long sliced pickles and fresh onions (both of which I left off mine) along with lettuce, tomato, ketchup and mustard.

The above is my beloved’s burger, fully loaded.

The patty was loosely packed and incredibly juicy. I don’t believe they gave us the required 14 napkins, for the two of us, but we went through all that we had. This was one delicious, filling, lunch and it gaves us the fuel to cross the finish line into a National Park.
