As I was heading to meet some folks in Vinings, I went back to the well of the original list, once again, and looked at the options. I found that Sushi Huku was on the list and on the way. While it has a Sandy Springs address, it is right there at Akers Mill and Powers Ferry (near 285), in the Publix shipping center. I was offered a seat at the sushi bar and perused the menu. They were doing a swift business for a Thursday night and I watched the sushi chefs making a couple of rolls while I made my choice.
I went with a crazy roll – yellowtail with cucumber and avocado.
Picking a roll can be a crapshoot – you look at the list (and this list was massive), cross off the ones that contain something you don’t like and then guess from the rest. I made a decent selection, but I should have culled the list more, removing the rolls with cucumber. For the meal, I went with the nightly special, tonkatsu ramen.
The ramen was steaming hot, and full of noodles. The broth is the key to ramen and this was very flavorful. It was not particularly spicy, but I added sriracha to remedy that, and contained no corn (always a pleasant addition to ramen). The egg was soft boiled, so that the yolk ran, just a little. This was good, but not great, ramen. I get the idea that sushi and sashimi is their “thing”. We’ll have to try it again and focus on those – that was my original plan, but the server wasn’t overly friendly and I didn’t feel like asking a ton of questions about the sushi.
Thank you so much for reviewing Sushi Huku! We are so glad you enjoyed our food and also wanted to invite you out to our sister restaurant, Craft Izakaya. My name is David Song and I am the new GM over at Craft. I just wanted to introduce myself to you. We would love to have you out to lunch or dinner at our establishment. Please let me know if you have anytime for us.
Thanks again, and happy holidays!
David
