Kavarna Coffee – Decatur, GA

So…. after the really bland burger, my beloved asked me how close we were to “that place with the house-made pumpkin spice latte”.   That phrase equates to Kavarna Coffee.  Earlier in the month, when we ate at Steinbeck’s, the server had told us how good the pumpkin spice latte was across the street.  We went and the BBEEST (who also plays the role of BBEEPST – the official Burgers, Barbecue and Everything Else Pumpkin Spice Taster), declared it was, indeed, a winner.

Kavarna has live music, on most days, at different times,  pastries, sandwiches, salads, soups and coffees and tea, at all times, and beer and wine, when appropriate.  Equal parts tavern, coffee shop and music / exhibition space, it is designed to be a neighborhood gathering place.  What a great thing it would be to have a place like this that you could walk to!  The closest thing to us, at 3/4″ mile, is Dollar General.  It is just not the same.

Today, my beloved got a lotta latte (pumpkin spice), I had a cappuccino and she grabbed a slice of apple walnut bread.  I arranged our drinks into this smiley face, as the latte really makes her smile.  For years, I didn’t understand the difference in coffee shops as coffee was just coffee.  Over time I’ve learned that the beans (locally roasted by Batdorf / Bronson here), the equipment, the barista and the other ingredients that go into the drinks make a difference.   Here, there is an ambiance that I appreciate and tasty coffee.  What more could you want?
